    • Martin Bell - Store Manager

      Running Expert

      Store: AVIEMORE

Martin started running 9 years ago. Since then he has completed various Ultra Marathons some of which include the CCC 100km from Courmayeur to Chamonix, The Wall 70 miles from Carlisle to Gateshead and The Great Glen 72 miles Fort William to Inverness.

He has tested out equipment such as inov-8 and Salomon, giving them feedback. Many years’ experience selling running gear to customers and listening to what they want from a product which is then fed back to the companies themselves. He has attended running workshops from top athletes to improve his knowledge. And has also experienced a long term injury so can relate well to most runners!

A moment that stands out for Martin would be getting to the top of the last hill on the CCC the ‘Tete aux Vents’ after a really low period on the climb, to witness the sunrise and get a new lease of life all the way to the finish!

Next June Martin will be running the South Downs Way 100 (miles) and at the Beginning of September he will hopefully be running the ‘Ring of Fire’ 135 miles around Anglesey. During the rest of the year they’ll be a few Munros and Corbetts getting ticked off to keep him busy.

      Favourite Place/Resort:

Chamonix. "Most of the time I’m in Scotland enjoying the trails and hills but I always love running anywhere new, Chamonix will always be a favourite though."

    • Sarah Parnell

      Skiing Expert

      Store: AVIEMORE

Sarah has been part of Ellis Brigham Ski Buyers Ski Test. NZSIA 2 (New Zealand Instructors Qualification). She has completed 6 seasons of instructingand 9 seasons of fitting boots.

Her skiing style is very technical and precise, because having taught the sport in both New Zealand and the US she likes to practice what she preaches. She’s also been on two Ellis Brigham ski tests, so if you’ve got questions about the latest skis or boots, Sarah can help.

      Favourite Place/Resort:

“Anywhere with snow and an epic view. Preferably a little known resort you stumble across with only the locals for company… although Jackson Hole in Wyoming is still on the bucket list.”

    • Dave Lowell

      Climbing & Mountaineering Expert

      Store: AVIEMORE

Climbing and Mountaineering Expert Dave is a great person to know if you’re curious about ascending Scotland’s rugged peaks. Dave has been climbing since his teens, was the president of his University’s mountaineering club, and with over a decade of climbing experience under his belt, (4 years of which he has spent as an instructor), Dave’s climbing knowledge is irrefutably vast. In Glencoe he climbed his first multi pitch route with his brother. Working it out he has been climbing 16 years. All over Scotland from NE sea cliffs, NW sandstone and locally Cairngorm granite. he climbs year round and lives under the Cairngorms famous for great winter climbing and all that comes with it.

He has taught all over Scotland, both indoor and trad, is SPA trained, and is a specialist when it comes to the real details such as tensile strengths, fall factors and rope dynamics.

Dave is hoping to scale Mont Blanc within the next couple of years, drawn to Continental Europe’s highest mountain by the prestige and its rich history.

      Favourite Destination:

Braerich, Cairngorms. "This mountain is virtually as big as Ben Nevis (it’s the third highest in the UK after Ben Nevis and Ben Macdui), but it’s really remote. A great climb."

    • Alan Riach

      Running Expert

      Store: Aviemore

Alan started running in his schooldays taking part in X-Country runs and events. He ran his first marathon at 19, coming in at a spectacular 2hrs 40min!

Nowadays Alan is still running and taking part in Triathlons and is also the head coach of the 'Cairngorm Runners', the local running club in Aviemore. He also has two events lined up for this year – the Salomon Kielder Marathon which he took part in last year, and the Alpe D’Huez Triathlon which is one of the toughest events on the Triathlon calender. Extensive knowledge of local trails and routes within the Cairngorm National Park and first hand experience with many models of running shoes makes Alan an ideal person to help you with all your running queries.

      Favourite Place/Resort:
Glenmore Forest, Aviemore. "It has to be an early morning run from my house in the Abernethy Forest through the Ryvoan Pass to Glenmore. It's 11 miles with amazing views of the mountains and the fresh air sets you up for the rest of the day!"

  • CUSTOMER REVIEWS

      • "After my recent experience at your Aviemore store, I felt I had to write and offer my sincere appreciation to Andrew who really helped us out. I had a problem which I felt sure would ruin our holiday, but with Andrew's assistance, with my wife's snowboard, we were able to carry on and only missed a single day. Andrew's significant expertise and experience meant that the problem was resolved quickly and with minimal issue. I have long been a fan of Ellis Brigham, but the assistance provided on this occasion was really exceptional and I felt the need to pass on my appreciation."
